CoreGrid Engineering

Primary service

Detailed Design & Engineering

Post-award design for substations, renewable plants, pooling stations, battery storage, transmission lines and HVDC stations: design criteria, calculations, drawings, schedules and documents prepared to the project specification and taken through comment resolution to final submission.

Where detailed engineering sits

Detailed engineering is the post-award stage, between the tender and construction.

StageWhat happensTypical CoreGrid outputs
Tender (pre-award)The EPC contractor prices the work from the tender documents.Scope break-up, preliminary SLD and GA, quantities, offer comparison, clarifications. See pre-bid engineering.
Detailed design (post-award)The awarded design is developed, reviewed and approved by the client or its consultant.Design basis, calculations, drawings, schedules, BOQ, vendor document review, CRS responses, final submissions.
Construction and commissioningThe EPC contractor builds and commissions; questions come back to engineering.Site query responses, revised drawings, signal mapping and commissioning advisory, as contracted. See site support.

What a detailed engineering package contains

The contract and its MDL decide which items a project needs.

Drawings

SLD, general arrangements and sections, Erection Key Diagrams, earthing and DSLP layouts, structure and foundation drawings, building and trench drawings, tower drawings.

Calculations

Conductor and busbar sizing, busbar short-circuit force and sag–tension, earthing, DSLP, battery and cable sizing, structural and foundation design, tower loading.

Schedules

Cable schedules, load lists, signal lists, bar bending schedules, BOQ and the master deliverable list.

Documents

Design basis reports, technical specifications, vendor review sheets, technical queries, comment resolution sheets and the drawing register.

Two core disciplines

Discipline

Electrical Design & Engineering

System and bay design, layouts and clearances, conductor and bus calculations, earthing and lightning protection, equipment selection and checks, auxiliary AC/DC, cables, illumination, and protection, control and SCADA interfaces where in scope.

Electrical design & engineering
Discipline

Civil & Structural Design & Engineering

Grading and plot plans, steel structures, equipment and transformer foundations, oil containment, buildings, trenches and duct banks, drainage, roads, fencing, reinforcement drawings, BBS and quantities.

Civil & structural engineering

How the disciplines depend on each other

Most design errors start at an interface. We pass these items between disciplines as controlled data and check them before issue.
