Voltage classes and system types

Our services cover AIS and GIS substations and AC transmission lines up to 765 kV, utility-scale solar, wind, hybrid and battery storage projects with their pooling and evacuation substations, and HVDC bipole and back-to-back schemes up to ±512 kV and 2500 MW.

These figures describe our service range. The assignments on the Projects page show the work we can name publicly, from 66/11 kV substations to 400 kV substations and 33/220 kV pooling stations.

  • AIS and GIS substations, AC up to 765 kV
  • Pooling and evacuation substations
  • Solar, wind and hybrid plants
  • Battery energy storage systems
  • AC transmission lines up to 765 kV
  • HVDC converter stations, bipole and back-to-back

We confirm the delivery basis for each item in the proposal, so the client knows what we prepare, what we review and where specialists are involved.

Codes and standards families

FamilyExamples of use
IS / BIS standardsStructural steel, reinforced concrete, loads and seismic criteria, earthing practice, transmission tower materials and loading
IEC standardsHigh-voltage equipment ratings, insulation coordination, short-circuit current calculation and its effects
CEA regulationsTechnical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Electric Lines Regulations, 2022, as amended; Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply Regulations, 2023
CBIP recommendationsSubstation and transmission practice, where the client’s specification refers to them
Utility and owner specificationsProject-specific design criteria, drawing formats, revision and approval conventions

How we use them. The approved project requirement governs; general codes inform the design and fill gaps. Edition, applicability and amendments are confirmed at the start of each package. This describes working practice and is not a certification.

Design and analysis tools

SoftwareTypical use
SES‑CDEGSEarthing and grounding analysis: GPR, step and touch potentials (specialist earth-system analysis)
ETAPLoad flow, short-circuit and protection coordination studies, using the modules available for the contract
PSCAD/EMTDCElectromagnetic transient studies (for example switching or GIS VFTO), only where models and specialist input are available
PLS-CADDOverhead line profiling, tower spotting, sag–tension and stringing charts (not substation busbar SCF)
STAAD.ProStructural analysis and design
DIALux evoIndoor and outdoor illumination calculation and layout
AutoCADElectrical and civil drawings

Whatever the tool, results are documented so they can be reviewed: inputs, assumptions, method and outputs appear in the calculation report. Where a client specifies a particular program or version, we confirm it at the start of the package.

Product names belong to their owners. Listing them describes our working tools; it is not an endorsement or a partnership.

What we are not. CoreGrid is a consulting engineering firm. We do not construct, manufacture or supply equipment, operate plants or own assets, and we do not issue statutory certifications or approvals on behalf of authorities, owners or utilities. Equipment design remains with the manufacturers.
